Careers at Dura

We love making things here at Dura Manufacturing - and so do the people who work for us. We've won an international reputation for not just doing things right, but doing things better, and that's only one reason why jobs here are so sought-after.

The products we make at our factory in Plymouth are used by many of the world’s most prestigious automotive brands including Rolls-Royce, Ferrari and Aston Martin, while our staff are bursting with pride after winning many of our industries most prestigious awards - including the Queen's Award for Export Achievement, the highest honour the Monarch can bestow on a company in the UK.

Our factory has a real team atmosphere where everyone's individual input is encouraged and each employees specific skills are utilised and developed wherever possible. Dominic Wishlade, our Managing Director, has one simple policy: he treats people as he'd like to be treated himself.

"It’s as simple as this," he says. "You need to employ great people and you need to respect them - and that makes it a win-win situation for everyone."

He bought the factory from its previous owner when it was on its knees and the workforce were days away from redundancy nearly seven years ago. Since then he has more than doubled the workforce, replaced outdated machinery with state-of-the-art equipment, and won customers around the world.

“When we first bought the factory I asked myself why I might want to come and work here – and decided I probably wouldn’t!" he says.

"So one of the first things we did was to set about making the factory and offices somewhere that people would feel proud to work.”

Now the staff have an extra spring in their step after Dura Manufacturing was judged the Best Growth Story in the South West in the Government-backed Great Faces Of British Business awards, and beat far bigger companies to the title of Manufacturer Of The Year in the Herald Business Awards 2015.

Dominic and his management team lead from the front and believe strongly in encouragement, helping staff to identify their strengths and progress if they wish to do so - as in the case of one of our experienced welders who’s currently retraining to be a CAD designer.

With a team of over 50 employees, we have CAD designers, paint-sprayers, machine operators, assemblers, welders, administration staff, and recruit both experienced people and apprentices.

If you'd like to work for Dura when the right vacancy arises, we'd be happy to hear from you and keep your CV on file - and in the meantime, you might care to read about the experience of Chris Farley, one of our celebrated CAD Designers (read full interview here)!

Our current vacancies (if any) appear below:

CAD Designer (Full-Time)

We're looking for two CAD Designers with sheet metal experience. We use laser cutters, punch press machines, panel folders, press brakes and punch presses, so an understanding of those processes is ideal.

We use 3D SolidWorks (SheetWorks) software but we will help you migrate from a similar CAD programme if needed.

The work is varied and interesting, and you could be designing products for a Ferrari showroom one day or a street-cleansing operation the next.

You will be expected to take initial concepts and briefs and turn them into on-screen prototypes and production-ready CAD models to the high standards that have won us worldwide recognition including the Queen's Award for Export Achievement.

Please apply via e-mail to Miki Booth at attaching your CV and a covering letter explaining why you want to work for Dura Manufacturing and why we should choose you.
